Therapy for Teens

For teens:
Urg… another day at school, trying to figure out your social life, advanced classes, extracurricular activities, trying to figure out your social life. It’s a lot.
You’re trying to do everything right. But you’re stressed and tired. You don’t feel like you fit in with the friends you used to have.
Sometimes it feels like an anxious feeling in the pit of your stomach; some days you don’t feel like getting out of bed. It doesn’t help that your parents are on top of you asking what’s wrong.
You might be wondering…🙄
How is therapy different than talking to any other adult:
I’m not a parent or teacher. Because of that, you can relax and be open about things
that might feel weird or embarrassing to talk about with Mom or Dad.
It’s a private conversation. I know sometimes there feels like no place that’s just for you.
You don’t get graded here. It’s for you. We figure out together what things you want to talk about and work on.
Things you can talk about with me:
Friends, your crush/dating, parents, school stress, anxiety, depression, body image, trouble sleeping, you favorite Youtube video, music, or your favorite type of sandwich. I’m being silly to make a point.
This isn’t “old school” therapy your parents might go to. You’re younger, grew up differently from them; this is a place you’ll feel that actually gets you. Let’s talk!
No reason to handle it all by yourself. There’s nothing more #instaworthy than feeling relaxed, confident, like you can walk up and start a conversation with anyone.
You’d be surprised at the famous and successful whom you might know that have come out publicly that they’ve gone to therapy and liked it: Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry.
For Parents:
When your teen isn’t feeling great… you don’t feel great. They’re the person you love most in the world. You’ve noticed a “change” in your teen but you’re not exactly sure what’s going on. Their grades slipped a little, they’re moody, don’t want to participate in family activities.
It makes you feel anxious. Did you miss something? Are you doing something wrong? They won’t be open with you.
You’re not alone! Teenagers have BIG feelings. A lot of times parents, the people they used to turn to for everything, don’t feel good being as open as they used to be. It’s OK. I can help!
I’m a great parent and teen “go-between.” What I mean is, I understand parents. But I am trained to “speak teen…” As your teen would say “LOL.”
I’m sure you remember a neighbor, family friend, teacher, or school counselor you had great, honest conversations with when you were a teenager. You remember these people forever.
Because having other neutral, supportive adults are important in helping teens grow, change, and think about their lives in a positive way.
Common issues I work on with teens:
- School stress, anxiety
- Body image issues & perfectionism
- Dealing with parents’ separation and divorce
- Transition from middle to high school OR high school to college
- Coping with loss of loved one
